The talent was always there on this USC Trojans team this season but that talent finally played to an 'A' level in an impressive come from behind win against SMU on Friday to advance to today's second round. USC knocked off not just any team but one of the hottest teams in the country and one of the best defensive teams in the country and yet the Trojans were able to drain one clutch shot after another against that very stingy SMU Mustangs defense. Jordan McLaughlin was instrumental at PG with his backcourt mate Elijah Stewart draining critical shots and USC's two bigs Chimezie Metu and Bennie Boatwright played big. Throw out your full season stats and numbers on USC because they don't mean a damn thing right now. USC has found their swagger and their confidence and they have serious positive momentum on their side heading into this game against what I still consider to be an overrated Baylor Bears team that was able to run past an outmatched New Mexico State team from a bad conference in their first game. I'm still not convinced in Baylor's ability to beat good teams by margin. Baylor doesn't have a boatload of quality perimeter players and they need to be able to crash the glass and play well inside to win games but with the emergence of Metu and Boatwright for USC and the way they have been playing, Baylor may not hold that edge in the paint against USC as some might have thought just a week or two ago. From a pure talent standpoint, USC has every bit of it as Baylor does. Throw in what I consider to be a coaching edge with Andy Enfield over Scott Drew (whose in-game management doesn't impress me) and we have a very live dog here fully capable of winning this game in outright fashion. Make sure to sprinkle something on the ML here!
