New York +105 at Dallas O/U 6
Recommendation: New York
This is a prime spot for a strong, focused effort from the New York Islanders against a very beatable foe as they travel to Dallas to take on Stars. New York hasn’t played since Saturday when they got absolutely ambushed by the Columbus Blue Jackets in a humiliating 7-0 defeat. The Isles have had four days of practice time to get that bad loss out of their system and I expect them to bring a massive performance tonight. The team called up promising prospect Josh Ho-Sang who will make his NHL debut and play on a line with Brock Nelson and Andrew Ladd. Ho-Sang’s call up should generate an extra spark for this team. New York has a strong 6-1 record in their last seven games when they have allowed five or more goals in the previous game. The Islanders are 4-0 in their last four games when coming off a loss of 3+ goals and they also have a strong 11-5 record against Western Conference this season. Dallas is coming off a comeback 3-2 win against Pittsburgh but the Stars have not been able to at any point to string wins together as evidenced by their miserable 6-22 record in their last 28 games following a win. Dallas traded away veteran defensemen Jordie Benn and Johnny Oduya along with forward Lauri Korpikoski prior to the trade deadline which clearly indicates management doesn’t believe in this team’s ability to get back into the playoff mix. Those actions certainly could resonate with the players and negatively impact their play on the ice. Dallas continues to play poorly in its own zone and has not gotten consistent goaltending at any time this season. That spells trouble against what should be an angry foe. I like the motivated Islanders at a small underdog price to notch the win.
