San Jose State at Hawaii
Saturday, 9 pm PT
CRIS Opener: Hawaii -18 O/U 61
CRIS Current: Hawaii -17 O/U 61
Recommendation: Hawaii

If there's a team ever in need of a bye week, it's the San Jose State Spartans. San Jose State has played seven straight games and finally gets a break after this week's trip to Hawaii. The schedule at times has been daunting but the Spartans did open Mountain West play against three average to below average squads with two of those contests at home. They failed to put up much of a fight in any of the three. Against Utah State, SJSU was outgained by 428 yards. They allowed over 8 yards per play in a 41-13 loss to UNLV. And last week were held to 205 yards in a 27-10 home loss to Fresno State. The Spartans, who are trying to play up-tempo football, have turned the ball over 24 times and have a -9 turnover margin over their last three contests. With a bye week looming, they must first travel to face Hawaii, a team they lost to a home last season, 34-17. It’s a scenario where we could very easily see the Spartans “pack it in” Read more

Utah at San Jose State
Saturday, 7:30 pm PT - CBSC
CRIS Opener:
Utah -12.5 O/U 50.5
CRIS Current: Utah -13 O/U 50
Recommendation: Under

Last season, quarterback Travis Wilson, running back Devontae Booker, receivers Britain Covey and Kenneth Scott, and a top-tier defense, helped the Utah Utes post an impressive 10-3 record. The offense wasn't always pretty but the team's balanced attack (180 ypg passing/183 ypg rushing) and a +13 turnover margin led to a fairly impressive 30.6 ppg. Through two weeks, it's clear that this year's edition of the offense is going to need more time to develop as all of the aforementioned offensive playmakers have departed.

Here are a couple of quotes from Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham following last week's 20-19 win over BYU.

"Troy's still learning," Whittingham said. "He's got some things to learn. You can't put the ball particularly in the red zone in that kind of traffic. If we don't turn it over six times, it's a whole different game."

"The drive we ended up kicking the field goal — that's Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Ohio State Buckeyes

Tulsa at Ohio State
Saturday, 9 am PT - ABC
CRIS Opener:
Ohio State -28.5 O/U 67.5
CRIS Current: Ohio State -28.5 O/U 72.5
Recommendation: Tulsa

I provided a winning wager with Tulsa as a free play recommendation last week and I’m going to back to the well on Saturday as it heads to Ohio State. This is obviously not the greatest of spots for the Buckeyes after dominating a rebuilding Bowling Green squad 77-10 and a trip to Norman to face Oklahoma on deck. Tulsa meanwhile looked much improved as they took apart San Jose State 45-10. The Golden Hurricane closed -3.5 but ended up outgaining the Spartans by 225 yards en route to the easy win and cover. Ohio State’s offense looked spectacular last week as it piled up a mind boggling 776 yards. Bowling Green was once again outmanned defensively but unlike last season, struggled to move the football with a first-year quarterback and head coach. Tulsa is on much better footing. Third-year starting quarterback Dane Evans has a host of skill position talent surrounding him and a proven track record of being able to put points on the board. In games Read more

San Jose State at Tulsa
Saturday, 4 pm PT - CBSC
CRIS Opener:
Tulsa -6 O/U 63.5
CRIS Current: Tulsa -5 O/U 70
Recommendation: Tulsa

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane enter the second year of the Philip Montgomery regime and I think this team is poised for improvement following a 6-7 campaign. This program was a disaster area during Bill Blankenship’s tenure but Montgomery, in just his first year on the job, took the team from 2-10 to a bowl game berth. Senior quarterback Dane Evans is back to lead what should be a very good offense. Evans posted a 63% completion rate with 25 TDs and just 8 INTs and should be even better in 2016. The offensive line has four returning starters and they have plenty of playmakers at the skill positions to put up points in bunches. Tulsa is in need of improvement on defense which was their biggest issue last season. They return seven starters including four of their top five tacklers. The Golden Hurricane will no doubt be better against the run after getting carved up for 240 ypg. The d-line returns three starters and everyone starting along that unit is either a junior or Read more
