NFL Preseason Gambling: Arizona Cardinals change play callers for second straight game

08.11.2017     07:58 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Arizona Cardinals will hand over play calling duties to quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich for Sunday's game vs. Oakland. In their 20-18 Hall of Fame game loss to the Cowboys, the Cardinals scored 15 points in the first quarter and finished with 327 total yards. Offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin called plays in that contest. Arizona has taken a slew of money this week; +1 to now -3 at both offshore and Las Vegas sportsbooks.

“Byron doesn’t have a ton of, or much, history calling plays but just his knowledge of the offense, his knowledge of being the guy that is hearing it through his headset is going to serve him and give him some experience.”

NFL Preseason Handicapper Free Betting Pick: New Orleans Saints at Cleveland Browns

Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
New Orleans +3 at Cleveland O/U 38
Recommendation: New Orleans

Hue Jackson went 0-4 SU and ATS in his lone preseason as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Jackson followed that 0-fer up with an 0-4 SU and ATS mark in his first season with the Browns last year. Much of that was circumstantial – the Browns Week 1 roster last year had more rookies on it than any non-expansion team in NFL history.

But when we’re talking about a major steam line move – this game opened at pick em and is now painted Cleveland -3 with extra vig to support the favorite – that type of track record certainly doesn’t inspire confidence in this bettor! Whatever value their might have been with the Browns at pick em or -1 is long gone now.

Most pointspread decisions -- whether in the NFL Preseason or regular season or playoffs -- are decided after halftime. The mainstream media and the betting markets often play far too much attention to the ‘how much playing time are the starters going to get?’ announcements, as opposed to the ‘who is going to be on the field after halftime?’ Read more

NFL Gambling News: League playing coy in regards to how it will handle sports betting

06.05.2017     10:16 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
With the Raiders not expected to move to Las Vegas until 2020, that gives the NFL plenty of time to come up with ways to gum up the works when it comes to sports betting.

“I’ve said before, I think with the Raiders playing in Las Vegas, there will be (gaming) policies that we will evaluate and look at what we can do differently, but also intelligently,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. “We will look at all those things over the next couple of years. (Mobile gaming) isn’t something we’ve addressed.

NFL Gambling News: Bettors should be able to bet on Las Vegas Raiders at the stadium

05.23.2017     09:31 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We're still a long ways off from a Las Vegas Raiders football game. So far, there is no indication that Nevada residents won't be able to bet on the games. In fact, the league has yet to comment on the potential that bettors will be able to wager on Raider games AT Raider games using their mobile devices.

"The NFL has not approached me for any policy decisions," Nevada Gaming Commissioner chairman Tony Alamo told ESPN. "The Nevada Gaming Commission is the policy maker for the state of Nevada and gaming, and they have not approached us in any shape, way or form."

Looks like the Oakland Raiders are eyeing 2020 as the target date for their Las Vegas stadium opening.

Roger Goodell slowly warming to idea of the NFL in Las Vegas

03.29.2017     08:51 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Following the announcement that the Oakland Raiders will (eventually) move to Las Vegas, Roger Goodell offered his own "hot take." Goodell made it abundantly clear that he does not like gambling but seemed to acknowledge that the practice isn't as sinful as once thought. Though we found it interesting that he claimed Las Vegas was "different" from say, 10-20 years ago. Roger, we think you're getting your eras confused. What you meant to say was Las Vegas was no longer like this. Later, Goodell also mentioned that there was probably no need for sportsbooks to keep Las Vegas Raiders games off the board.

Owners vote in favor of Oakland to Las Vegas move

03.27.2017     12:08 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's official. The Oakland Raiders announced they will relocate the team to Las Vegas. But don't get too excited. A stadium needs to be built and the team stated that they will remain in Oakland through at least the 2018 season.

"The Raiders were born in Oakland and Oakland will always be part of our DNA. We know that some fans will be disappointed and even angry, but we hope that they do not direct that frustration to the players, coaches and staff. We plan to play at the Coliseum in 2017 and 2018, and hope to stay there as the Oakland Raiders until the new stadium opens. We would love nothing more than to bring a championship back to the Bay Area."

UPDATE

And just like that, the Raiders to Las Vegas goes from being chalk to an underdog.

“This is not a wrench in the wheel, the wheel fell off,” Clark County Commission chair Steve Sisolak told The Nevada Independent. “This is an enormous setback in my opinion.”

So this Raiders to Las Vegas thing sounds like it's really going to happen.

"Today, the Oakland Raiders submitted an application to relocate their franchise to Las Vegas, as is provided for under the NFL policy and procedures for proposed franchise relocations," the NFL said. "The application will be reviewed in the coming weeks by league staff and the stadium and finance committees."

NFL Gambling: Questionable quarterbacks highlight Wild Card matchups

01.05.2017     10:22 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This weekend's four Wild Card matchups feature four quarterbacks with Super Bowl rings. It also features a backup, a failed starter who may have lucked into getting his job back, and a third string rookie.

Miami's Matt Moore has looked semi-viable and will get the nod against Pittsburgh.

"Unless something changes drastically here in the next two days or three days, he's going into this thing as the starter," Gase said of Moore.

Houston's Brock Osweiler, who last time out got into a "heated exchange" with head coach Bill O'Brien, is slated to go against Oakland.

"What happens between Coach O'Brien and myself or whatever's said between Coach O'Brien and myself, it stays between us," Osweiler said. "That's where I'm going to leave that. My focus has moved toward Oakland."
