NFL Preseason Handicapper Free Betting Pick: New Orleans Saints at Cleveland Browns

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
New Orleans +3 at Cleveland O/U 38
Recommendation: New Orleans

Hue Jackson went 0-4 SU and ATS in his lone preseason as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Jackson followed that 0-fer up with an 0-4 SU and ATS mark in his first season with the Browns last year. Much of that was circumstantial – the Browns Week 1 roster last year had more rookies on it than any non-expansion team in NFL history.

But when we’re talking about a major steam line move – this game opened at pick em and is now painted Cleveland -3 with extra vig to support the favorite – that type of track record certainly doesn’t inspire confidence in this bettor! Whatever value their might have been with the Browns at pick em or -1 is long gone now.

Most pointspread decisions -- whether in the NFL Preseason or regular season or playoffs -- are decided after halftime. The mainstream media and the betting markets often play far too much attention to the ‘how much playing time are the starters going to get?’ announcements, as opposed to the ‘who is going to be on the field after halftime?’ Read more

NFL Gambling News: New Orleans quietly cashes tickets, Arizona shows no signs of improvement

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Last week, we discussed one team on the rise and one team on the decline and their trajectory played out as such this past Sunday. Tampa Bay won its third straight game; beating Seattle outright as +6 home underdogs. Meanwhile, Cincinnati lost yet another contest both straight up and against the spread to division rival Baltimore. This week, I’ll target two more teams that should offer good “bet on” and “bet against” opportunities in the coming weeks.

The New Orleans Saints are 5-6 but still just two games back of first place Atlanta in the NFC South. And despite that losing record, the Saints have posted a profit-producing 8-3 mark against the spread. Thanks to an 0-3 start, New Orleans has spent the better part of the season as an undervalued commodity. Quarterback Drew Brees, who had another huge game in Sunday’s blowout win against Los Angeles, is putting up MVP-type numbers. And the offense as a whole has piled up at least 20 points in all but one game. But the storyline has been the improvement of the defense. New Orleans was historically bad last season but under the watch of defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, the unit has gone Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Ranking all 32 NFL teams heading into Week 1

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NFL Preseason is in the rear view mirror, with Week 1 kicking off on Thursday as Carolina travels to Denver as -3 road favorites.  Here’s how I have all 32 teams ranked heading into the regular season.

1. Carolina Panthers  - Cam Newton and Carolina’s offense are poised to rank among the most potent attacks in the NFL.  Watch out for the Funchess/Benjamin WR duo!

2. Seattle Seahawks - Russell Wilson gave an MVP caliber performance in 2015, but his ability to repeat that effort could be stunted by the Seahawks offensive line woes.

3. Green Bay Packers - The Packers come out of camp with a full complement of healthy weapons for Aaron Rodgers, good news after Rodgers numbers took a big hit without Jordy Nelson last year.

4. Arizona Cardinals - Arizona returns just about every key player on both sides of the ball from a team that ranked among the NFL’s elite in 2015.

5. New England Patriots - If Tom Brady was at quarterback, this team would be ranked #1.  But with Jimmy Garappolo behind center, the Pats take a modest tumble in my rankings.

6. Kansas City Chiefs - Andy Reid’s Read more

NFL Preseason Betting: Pittsburgh's Big Ben, Brown, and Bell to play vs. Saints

08.25.2016     10:20 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell are all expected to play in Friday's preseason game at New Orleans. Head coach Mike Tomlin did not specify how much action they would get. The Saints were bet heavily early today as the line jumped from -1.5 to as high as -3.

“I feel like I could go into the regular season and do it, but I’d like to be to there because it’s a different speed,” Roethlisberger said. “You want to get out. I wouldn’t even mind getting hit once maybe after the ball’s gone, just a little tap from someone.”

NFL Betting News: New Orleans hopes new DC will spark improvement

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's been a revolving door of defensive coordinators in New Orleans and this year is no different as Dennis Allen steps in for Rob Ryan. It was widely accepted that head coach Sean Payton didn't get along with Ryan whose unit allowed a league-worst 29.8 ppg last season. The media claims that Payton and Allen have been buddy-buddy and are on the same page heading into the season. The Saints' defense will be tested early on with five of their first seven games against offenses than ranked in the top 11 in the NFL in yard per game last season.

NFL Preseason Betting: No Brady, Gronk or Edelman for Pats vs. Saints

No Tom Brady for the New England Patriots as they open the preseason at home vs. New Orleans. Jimmy Garoppolo will start though no word on how much he'll play. Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman are also expected to sit. The Saints said that Drew Brees will likely play just one series. The Patriots are currently -3 favorites with a total of 39.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: An early look at the NFC South

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Continuing my summertime tour through the eight NFL divisions, this week, I’ll be taking an in-depth look at the four NFC South teams.  As always, teams are listed in alphabetical order within the division.

The Atlanta Falcons (lined at 7 or 7.5 wins for 2016, depending on the book) went 6-1 SU to open the season last year, but stumbled down the stretch with a 2-7 finish, finishing the season with an improved, yet still disappointing 8-8 SU record.  They were money losers (6-10 ATS, including a 2-10 slide to close out the campaign) despite their two win improvement from 2014 to 2015.  That came on the heels of a two win improvement (from four to six victories) from 2013 to 2014.

The Falcons mainstream stats show one clear weakness from 2015, despite facing one of the easier scheduled in the NFL last year.  Their 30 giveaways ranked among the bottom five teams in the NFL at avoiding turnovers.  They finished +0.0 yards per play, (obviously) right at the league average with the #7 ranked offense and the #16 ranked defense based on yardage numbers.   Both coordinators return from last year’s Read more
