NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Colorado Avalanche at Vancouver Canucks

Colorado +100 at Vancouver O/U 6
Recommendation: Colorado

The Vancouver Canucks trounced a red hot Boston Bruins team by a score of 6-1 in their most recent game on Saturday night but the final score was misleading. Vancouver got out to an early lead but Boston fired away 45 shots on goal compared to just 23 shots for Vancouver but the Canucks were able to bury the majority of their quality scoring chances in the victory. They will be up against a Colorado Avalanche team that looked quite a bit disjointed in their 4-2 loss at home to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. That game featured a return to the lineup for the Avs leading scorer Nathan MacKinnon from a shoulder injury but it didn’t result in a win nor did it result in a sharp performance from the Avalanche. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar called out his team to play with more urgency after the loss to Edmonton as the Avalanche try to make a push for the playoffs: “We've got to dial our game up just like everybody else is this time of year, and we haven't done that yet recently. We should be getting more and more urgency out of our group now because we are starting to Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Chicago Blackhawks at Vegas Golden Knights

Chicago at Vegas O/U 6
Recommendation: Vegas -1.5 puck line

Vegas is off a very rare home loss (19-6 YTD) on Sunday to the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 4-1 but the Golden Knights have been a resilient group all season and have consistently responded well after a poor performance as evidenced by their 14-5 record off of a single loss. The Golden Knights outshot the Flyers despite coming up short on the scoreboard but the team felt they were not creating enough quality scoring chances nor were they making life uncomfortable enough for the opposing goaltender something the team has vowed to try and correct for this home game tonight against the Blackhawks. Chicago is in freefall mode currently a shell of the team they have been for most of the last decade in which they have been a perennial Stanley Cup contender. The Blackhawks have lost six straight games entering this contest tonight and now face the arduous task of playing their third road game in four nights against a much better and highly motivated hockey team. Chicago has been outscored by Minnesota and Arizona in the first two games of this road swing by a combined score of Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Minnesota Wild at St. Louis Blues

Minnesota at St. Louis -135 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: St. Louis

The St. Louis Blues recently got Jaden Schwartz who is arguably their most important forward back in the lineup after being out for an extended period of time due to injury. He is a great two-way player for this squad and since his return, the Blues have gone 4-1 in their last 5 games with the only defeat during that span coming on the road against the red hot, surging Boston Bruins. Schwartz being back on the ice means the Blues now have their three top scorers with him, Vladimir Tarasenko and Brayden Schenn all in the lineup at the same time which is something that has been a rarity for the Blues this season. In addition to their top offensive weapons being healthy, St. Louis has played terrific at the defensive end of the ice limiting the opposition to a single goal or less in four of those last five games and they will pose a big challenge for Minnesota tonight who have only been able to muster a paltry average of 2.54 goals per game on the road this season which helps explain their difficulties of putting wins together on the highway. NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Florida Panthers at New York Islanders

Florida at NY Islanders
Recommendation: New York Team Total over 3.5

The Florida Panthers were stuck in the midst of a nasty problem keeping the puck out of their own net heading into the All-Star Break this past weekend. Florida’s defensive play has been downright horrendous as they have surrendered 3+ goals in nine straight games and a total of 37 goals during that span. With Roberto Luongo and James Reimer both injured, Florida is relegated to starting the third goalie on their depth chart that being journeyman Finnish goalie Harri Sateri for this game. His numbers are very poor with a 4.60 GAA and .880 save percentage in three starts and four appearances this season. The New York Islanders are one of the league’s top offensive teams and their firepower has been even more lethal on home ice here in Brooklyn where the Islanders are averaging 3.61 goals per game on home ice. In each of the last two head-to-head encounters between the Panthers and Islanders, New York managed to score 5 goals in each game against Florida and with the Panthers currently struggling in their own end and also lacking a legitimate NHL #1 Read more

NHL Gambling: Las Vegas nightlife apparently responsible for Golden Knights' success

01.25.2018     10:33 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here's an article suggesting the Las Vegas Golden Knights are crushing because opposing teams are always hungover (19-2-2 at home). They call it the "Vegas flu." No mention however about the "Winnipeg whooping cough" as the Jets sport an equally impressive 17-3-1 on their home ice. All jokes aside, the Golden Knights have been a headache for local bookmakers.

"We hear the rumors but unless you have private detectives that say [players] were at [the legendary strip club] Spearmint Rhino or shooting dice all night, I don't know if that's the case," Bogdanovich said.

"I figured the tickets were just souvenirs," MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood said, citing the popular novelty of saving the evidence of a preposterous wager to share with friends. "It's probably the most liability of any team [of any sport] during my 10 years here."

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Winnipeg Jets at San Jose Sharks

Winnipeg -110 at San Jose O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Jets recommitted themselves over their five-day break to playing better and stronger defensive hockey and so far that mindset has paid dividends for the Jets as they’ve won two straight games following their break defeating Calgary 2-1 on the road and they followed that up with a 1-0 shutout victory back home against Vancouver. The Jets came out of the break focused on improving at goal prevention and they have made good on their word in the last two games. That new defensive focus should serve them quite well tonight because they are taking on a San Jose team that has been one of the better defensive teams in the NHL this season. There could be a distinct edge in freshness and energy for this game on the Winnipeg side of the equation. This is just Winnipeg's 3rd game following their extended break. Meanwhile, San Jose is at the tail end of a very grueling scheduling cycle. The Sharks will be playing their 7th game in 11 nights since they came out of their league mandated 5 day break and for a team whose core players are in their 30’s in age, this Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Vegas Golden Knights at Tampa Bay Lightning

Vegas +145 at Tampa Bay O/U 6
Recommendation: Vegas

The Vegas Golden Knights qualify under a 20-10 67% betting angle over the last two seasons; bet on teams playing their normal scheduling routine against teams playing their first game following the league mandated five-day break which the Tampa Bay Lightning will be doing tonight. However, that is not the sole reason for backing Vegas tonight. Tampa Bay suffered a massive injury in their last game prior to the break against the Calgary Flames when their stalwart defenseman and one of the best in the NHL at his position Victor Hedman left the game with a left knee injury that has sidelined him for 4-6 weeks which opens up a huge void the Lightning are going to have to fill on their blue line. Hedman plays the most minutes of any Lightning defensemen and plays in all situations so his absence is as big as it gets and the fact, Tampa Bay crumbled mentally and physically getting routed by Calgary 5-1 and falling apart in the moments following Hedman’s departure from the game speaks volumes about the impact he makes on this hockey team and their success. Tampa Bay has had Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: New Jersey Devils at New York Islanders

New Jersey -120 at NY Islanders O/U 6.5
Recommendation: Over

Betting New York Islanders games over the total has proven to be a meal ticket and season long cash cow for me this season. The Isles enter tonight’s game at 30-12 O/U and none of it is by accident. New York has an offense that doesn’t need many chances or scoring opportunities to produce goals. The Islanders are averaging 3.44 goals per game this season which improves to 3.81 goals per game on home ice. New Jersey is having a brutal time of it in terms of keeping the puck out of their own net. The Devils have surrendered 3+ goals in six straight games and a total of 26 goals allowed during that span so it is not surprising to see them trending 5-1 O/U during this stretch. Cory Schneider tonight’s starting goalie for New Jersey and their #1 netminder has hit a rough patch lately allowing 4 or more goals in five consecutive starts and the Over has cashed in each of those five games. I would expect the NY Islanders to find the back of the net early and often tonight as they have in most of their games throughout the season. On the flip side, for as good Read more

NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Calgary Flames at Minnesota Wild

Calgary at Minnesota -115 O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Minnesota

The Calgary Flames have been mired with consistency problems all season and I expect those to continue tonight as they head to Minneapolis to face the Minnesota Wild. Calgary is coming off a nice 3-2 home win against the Anaheim Ducks; their third straight win overall, all of which coming at home. But now they head on the road where they have dropped two straight to San Jose and Anaheim. This should be a strong step up effort spot for Minnesota after they were hammered in a 7-2 road loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. The Wild emphasized playing better defensively and their overall game without the puck in practice heading into this game so I’d expect them to put forth a much improved defensive effort tonight on home ice where the Wild have won four straight games including a pair of wins against really good Western Conference teams like Dallas and Nashville. Minnesota recently got Nino Neiderreiter back from injury and he’s already made a big impact for the Wild scoring three goals in two games since his return. Calgary goaltender Mike Smith is Read more

NHL Gambling: Vegas Knights continue to rake in profits

01.04.2018     10:02 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This can't last, can it? The expansion Vegas Knights have taken the betting world by storm with an incredible +20.5 units of profit through only 38 games. That's an ROI of +48.6%! To compare, the Milwaukee Brewers were the most profitable moneyline team in MLB last season at +18 units. Their ROI was +9.9%. Like a lot of expansion teams, the betting markets didn't give the Knights much of a chance with a league-low season over/under point total of 68.5 heading into the season. Vegas already has 58! Oddsmakers have started to adjust as the Knights have closed favorites in eight of their last 13 games. For the season, Vegas' average moneyline price is +119.
