NBA Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Los Angeles Clippers at Detroit Pistons

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
LA Clippers at Detroit -3 O/U 219
Recommendation: Detroit

The Pistons have won five straight since snapping their eight game losing streak, the last four of which have come with Blake Griffin on the court for Detroit. The numbers with Griffin and fellow low post stud Andre Drummond on the court together have been remarkable; jelling immediately as a duo.

In 84 court minutes together through four games, Detroit has averaged 112.6 points per 100 possessions on offense while allowing only 88.2 PP/100 on defense. That results in a remarkable net of +24.4 PP/100 with that duo on the floor. Throw in a 54.9% in percentage of available rebounds Detroit has snagged with the Griffin/Drummond duo on the floor and all of a sudden Stan Van Gundy’s squad has the look of a legitimate contender.

These quotes from the Pistons locker room really stand out. Drummond: “It can only get better from here. With (Griffin’s) addition it’s just been a lot of fun. He’s able to handle the ball; he’s a great playmaker. He’s doing a great job of adjusting right now.”

UPDATE

As just like that, Chris Paul has been downgraded to "out" for tonight's game. The Clippers are in a back-to-back spot with a home game against the Spurs tomorrow night. Holding Paul out suggests he'll be in the lineup on Friday.

NBA Gambling Alert: Clippers' Paul may play vs. Warriors

Los Angeles' Chris Paul could make his Ali-like return to the hardwood tonight as the Clippers travel to Golden State (-12.5). Paul recently missed 13 games due to a thumb injury that required surgery. Doctors have reportedly cleared him to play. The Clippers are 27-9 SU, 19-17 ATS when Paul plays and 8-12 SU and 10-10 without him in the lineup.

"He looked great. He went through the whole practice [on Tuesday]. You know, so it was good. Really good," Rivers said before practice on Wednesday. "He could play tomorrow. I mean, I can't tell you if he will or not, but he's been cleared medically. But we just want to make sure that he's comfortable playing."

NBA Handicapping: Clippers lose Paul to injury, face daunting upcoming schedule

01.18.2017     09:26 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It doesn't take a genius to know that Chris Paul has a massive impact. According to ESPN's stats, the Clippers are 20 points better per 100 possessions when Paul is on the floor. Well, he won't be on the floor for a while as Paul suffered a thumb injury and will miss 6-8 weeks. Making matters worse is LA's upcoming schedule. Eleven of their next 15 are on the road. Four of those games are back-to-back situations. And three are against Golden State.

NBA Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers

Denver +8 at Los Angeles O/U 219
Recommendation: Denver

The Clippers come back home after a three-game road trip but they do so without the services of Blake Griffin who is having arthroscopic knee surgery. Without Griffin, the dynamics on offense change drastically. Fundamentally, their transition offense is now significantly downgraded and in the half court, they do not have a replacement with Griffin’s capabilities. Playing without their leading scorer isn’t new since the Clippers did it for 45 games last season but it does force a restructuring of sorts to their offensive style and it places a heavy burden on Chris Paul, J.J. Reddick and Jamal Crawford. That backcourt trio presents the only real offensive threats proven enough to try and compensate for the 21.2 ppg that will be missing for the next three to six weeks. Depth and defense are also obviously hurt for the Clippers who are in a current 4-13 tailspin against the spread.

Denver on the other hand is fully healthy for the first time this season and they are 3-0 ATS in their last three including a 117-107 home win and cover against Dallas last night. The Nuggets Read more

NBA Gambling: Markets make big adjustment following injuries to Paul and Griffin

04.27.2016     07:56 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
When you lose Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, it's pretty clear the pointspread needs to be adjusted. The question is how much. According to the betting markets, both players are worth about 11.5 points. The Clippers were -8.5 home favorites with Paul and Griffin in Games 1 and 2. As of this morning, they are +3 home dogs for tonight's Game 5. According to Sports Options, 81% of public money is on the Trail Blazers.

NBA Betting: Playoff series receive influx of intrigue following injuries to Curry and Paul

04.26.2016     09:02 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
What was originally on pace to be a snoozer first round has all of a sudden gotten really interesting. Golden State's Steph Curry (knee) is out for two weeks which would have made their second round matchup vs. the Los Angeles Clippers far more intriguing. Instead, the Warriors caught a break after Chris Paul broke his hand and will likely miss the rest of the postseason. And with the series tied 2-2, it's conceivable the Warriors could draw Portland. The Clippers are 3-5 SU, 3-4-1 ATS, and 7-1 O/U without Paul this season. Meanwhile, after sweeping Memphis is one of the easiest series in history, San Antonio has quietly moved to the slight favorite over Golden State to win the NBA Championship.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Betting markets don't believe in Thunder and Clippers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
When it comes to the chase for the NBA Championship this year, Golden State has taken all the oxygen in the room. What little hype that has been able to escape the Warriors vortex has gravitated towards San Antonio, especially as the Spurs were chasing the NBA all-time record for most home wins in a season.

Then Kobe went out and scored 60 on the final night of the regular season.  LeBron announced that he was getting off social media and immediately proceeded to go on a ten game tear to close out the regular season, leading the prohibitive favorite to come out of the East, Cleveland Cavaliers.  The national media spotlight just isn’t big enough to cover more stories than the easy ones that have fallen into their laps over the last few months.

And that leaves two teams that I think are legitimate title contenders sitting as relative afterthoughts in the national media spotlight and in the betting markets.  The Oklahoma City Thunder were priced in the 15-1 range to win the NBA Title entering the playoffs.  The Los Angeles Clippers were even higher, priced in the 30:1 range.  Even though the spotlight is shining brightly on the Read more
