College Football Betting Preview: San Jose State Spartans at Hawaii Warriors

San Jose State at Hawaii
Saturday, 9 pm PT
CRIS Opener: Hawaii -18 O/U 61
CRIS Current: Hawaii -17 O/U 61
Recommendation: Hawaii

If there's a team ever in need of a bye week, it's the San Jose State Spartans. San Jose State has played seven straight games and finally gets a break after this week's trip to Hawaii. The schedule at times has been daunting but the Spartans did open Mountain West play against three average to below average squads with two of those contests at home. They failed to put up much of a fight in any of the three. Against Utah State, SJSU was outgained by 428 yards. They allowed over 8 yards per play in a 41-13 loss to UNLV. And last week were held to 205 yards in a 27-10 home loss to Fresno State. The Spartans, who are trying to play up-tempo football, have turned the ball over 24 times and have a -9 turnover margin over their last three contests. With a bye week looming, they must first travel to face Hawaii, a team they lost to a home last season, 34-17. It’s a scenario where we could very easily see the Spartans “pack it in” Read more

College Football Gambling: UNLV to use two quarterbacks vs. Hawaii

10.12.2016     09:09 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The concept of the forward pass has been a tough one to grasp for UNLV this season. The Rebels are averaging 136.7 ypg through the air the second lowest mark in the country from a non-option squad. Starting quarterback Johnny Stanton is still out with a knee injury. Backup Dalton Sneed looked serviceable (147 rushing yards, 8-of-16, 129 yards, 1 TD) in UNLV's 45-20 win over Fresno State but also looked completely overwhelmed against San Diego State (2-of-12, 9 yards, 1 INT). Head coach Tony Sanchez said that Kurt Palandech will likely play a series or two in order to take some of the pressure off of Sneed. Palandech threw for 794 yards last season but completed less than 50% of his passes. UNLV travels to Hawaii this weekend. The Rainbow Warriors were bet up from -4.5 to -9.

“We’re debating whether or not we put him in the first series of the second quarter or put him in the third series,” Sanchez said.

College Football Betting Preview: California Golden Bears at San Diego State Aztecs

California at San Diego State
Saturday, 7:30 pm PT - CBSC
CRIS Opener:
San Diego State -8 O/U 59.5
CRIS Current: San Diego State -7 O/U 62
Recommendation: Under

Following its 51-31 win over Hawaii in Australia, the Cal Golden Bears will have had over two weeks to prepare for a tough trip to San Diego State. The Aztecs don't get to host many power conference teams (34-30 loss vs. Oregon State in 2013) and will have their sights set on avenging last year's 35-7 loss to Cal in Berkeley.

Despite a slew of defections on offense, Cal managed 630 yards on 89 plays (7.0 ypp) against the Rainbow Warriors. Texas Tech transfer quarterback Davis Webb looks to be an ideal fit as he hung 441 yards and four touchdowns. But for such a young offense, this is a massive step up in class as San Diego State's defense grades out as the best in the Mountain West and among the top 20 nationally.

Cal obviously played in a lot of high scoring games last season but against more moderate paced and or pro style offenses, the outcomes were far more traditional: 30-24 win at Washington, 30-24 loss at Utah, 27-21 Read more

NCAA Tournament Gambling Free Pick: Hawaii Warriors vs. California Golden Bears

Hawaii vs. California -5 O/U 141
Recommendation: California

Oftentimes the college basketball betting markets are so predictable.  Yes, Cal just lost their leading scorer, senior point guard Tyrone Wallace, to a broken hand that he suffered in practice earlier in the week.  And the markets proceeded to do what they do, without a sliver of thought or research.  They hear leading scorer or senior point guard and immediately start betting Hawaii, hand over fist.

All of which leaves us with Cal sitting at --5 as I write this; in a game that has legitimate mismatch potential.  First, let me start with Wallace.  He’s missed five games earlier in the year, and then came off the bench for the next three.  Cal went 6-2 SU, 5-3 ATS in the games that Wallace missed, including wins over Arizona and Oregon, two teams that are FAR better than Hawaii.

How has Cal been able to thrive without their senior point guard before?  Simple – they’ve got a backup who is almost as good.  Sam Singer doesn’t have Wallace’s scoring prowess , but that’s no big deal for a team that has Read more
